Competition Terms and Conditions:

  1. This competition is promoted by HarperCollins Publishers Limited (“HarperCollins”), I London Bridge Street, London, SE1 9GF.
  2. This promotion is open to all UK and Republic of Ireland residents except employees of HarperCollins and Peters, Fraser & Dunlop Literary Agency (or their parent, subsidiaries or any affiliated companies) and their immediate families, who are not allowed to enter the competition.
  3. You must be 18 or over to enter this competition.
  4. How to enter: Submit your synopsis, short paragraph about yourself and first three chapters to Only fiction entries will be accepted.
  5. The opening date for entries is 19th May 2018. The closing date for entries is 31st October 2018. No entries received after this date will be accepted.
  6. No purchase necessary.
  7. Only 1 submission allowed per household.
  8. By entering this competition you confirm that your submission of an entry to us, and/or any potential publication thereof if you win, is not prohibited by and does not breach any agreement you have with any other publisher.
  9. The prize is: £1,000 cash, one x three-hour editorial session with Kimberley Young (Kimberley Chambers’ editor), an offer of representation from Peters Fraser and Dunlop Literary Agency
  10. The prize is non-refundable, non-transferable and subject to availability. No guarantee is given as to the quality of the prize.
  11. No cash or prize alternatives are available.
  12. HarperCollins reserve the right in their reasonable discretion to substitute any prize with a prize of equal or greater value.
  13. The winner of the competition agrees to give HarperCollins an option to publish their winning entry on HarperCollins standard author contract terms.
  14. The winner of the competition will be selected by the HarperFiction and Peters Fraser and Dunlop teams based on the overall quality of the submission in the view of the editorial team and notified by e-mail no later than the 30th November 2018. Where we require details from you, if you do not provide these within 28 days of notification we reserve the right to select a different winner.
  15. This agreement does not purport to assign, licence or other dispose of any copyright in the submissions to the Promoter. Upon completion of the competition, the Promoter shall delete all submissions unless otherwise agreed by the Parties.
  16. All entrants are expected to act fairly and in the good spirit of the competition. HarperCollins reserves the right to investigate any irregularities and disqualify entrants at its absolute discretion.
  17. The prize will be delivered to the winner no later than 1st February 2019. HarperCollins reserves the right to select another winner if the original winner cannot be contacted within a reasonable timeframe.
  18. Any application containing incorrect, false or unreadable information will be rejected. Any applications made on behalf of or for another person or multiple entries will not be included in the competition.
  19. HarperCollins’ decision as to who has won the competition shall be final.

  27. Any dispute relating to the competition shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales and will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
